Grand Seiko ref. 5722-9990 circa 1965

Also known as the 57GS or Grand Seiko Self-Dater this is a second generation GS, the original 1960 Grand Seiko was strictly a time-only dress watch often cased in precious metals prior to the 57Gs and its production run coincided with the formulation of Mitsuhiro Tanaka's famous "Grammar of Design" known for its massive, flat, mirror-polished lugs and sharp case lines that still define Grand Seiko's visual identity. Really, an iconic case. Today when most Grand Seiko’s are dial centric, it was always about the case.

Here, we have a beautifully patina’d dial, kind of like if a Shun Bun was vintage. It has a peach hue with flake shaped splotches. Overall the case is still looking sharp and tough with just one ding on the top of the case non-crown side. While no service history, a healthy watch clean movement
