Movado Calendograf Triple calendar vintage circa 1940s

Movado—meaning "always in motion" in Esperanto—is renowned for its minimalist, Bauhaus-inspired Museum Watch designed in 1947. Originally a high-quality mechanical watchmaker, the company is now a fashion or “mall” brand. Perhaps best known for the Museum watch from 1947 which features a black dial with a single gold dot at 12 o'clock, symbolizing the sun at high noon. It was the first watch dial selected for the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) permanent collection.

The Calendograf was exhibited at the 1940 World's Fair in New York as well as at the Basel Watch Fairs throughout the 1940s In 1946 while visiting the country after the second world war, Winston Churchill was presented with a Movado Calendograf by the Swiss government as a token of their admiration. The Calendograf line remained in production until 1954.

This timepiece is a Movado Calendograf Triple calendar vintage circa 1940s. It tracks the day with red arrow hand as well as day and month in windows. The dial sports small Cabochron rubies which is a sought-after configuration. The rose gold bezel and plated lugs are set in a steel cased is in excellent condition for its age— The pushers work properly and the movement looks healthy on timegrapher without service history.
