Movado Vintage Ref. 38105 Calatrava Cal. 125 Circa 1950s

Movado—meaning "always in motion" in Esperanto—is renowned for its minimalist, Bauhaus-inspired Museum Watch designed in 1947. Originally a high-quality mechanical watchmaker, the company is now a fashion or “mall” brand. Perhaps best known for the Museum watch from 1947 which features a black dial with a single gold dot at 12 o'clock, symbolizing the sun at high noon. It was the first watch dial selected for the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) permanent collection.

This midcentury Calatrava sub-seconds watch is a classic design. Traditionally a dress watch but also a fine elevated casual watch as it wears a bit larger than watches from this era. It dons a frothy almond milk dial with minimal aging and a brand tag on what appears to be the original strap—coloration on caseback is either from a sticker or from storage.

Overall, this one looks like is stayed in the case or safe as it appears to be in minty and original condition for a 70 year old watch. Even better, it sports factory drilled lugs for easy strap changes and so scratches and damage can be avoided during the process.
