Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date ref. 1500 Tropical Mosaic Dial circa 1972
The 70s produced some of the most exotic dials—some stock and some have patina’ed. In this unique case, we have an exclusive Asian Rolex market “shantung” aka “mosiac” dials with unique horizontal flow. This is a blessed blue variant: others include grey, silver and maybe brown. We know they also come in Datejust, Oyster Perpetual Date, and Oyster Perpetual no-date forms. Today, the modern iteration is called the Motif but it doesn’t have soul like this.
This is a refined reference 1500 with open font 6 and 9 in datewheel, crisp oyster bracelet and creamy patina on hands and hour plots. While no service history, the automatic non-quicker movement is running well and healthy on timegrapher—your experience may slightly vary. Overall, no damage on case or bracelet and minimal signs of polish—just a flea bite on crystal near 7
