Rolex Datejust Ghost ref. 16014 circa 1979 (63xxxxx serial)
The Datejust is quintessential Rolex. Not only are the 1970’s variations of this model come with zesty dials and open midcentury font in the datewheel, but the dials also often don refined colors and patina.
This GHOST one has a super clean sunburst slate grey with bronze tinge dial accented with Irish butter colored tritium dial lume plots and original matching hands. Ghost dials not only have white text but it also disappears in the light when rotating around (see videos)
The 16014 variation points to a white gold fluted bezel. The 16000 is a smooth steel one and 16030 sports an engine turned steel bezel. Today, the Oyster Perpetual series is hands down the most popular of the crown and the OP is some one the original dna.
While service history is unknown, the automatic quickset movement is keeping a nice 0 seconds/day and crispy date snap over at midnight.
The case and bracelet are also super clean with minimal signs of wear and just light signs of polish—no notable damage. The bracelet has typical stretch for a 1979 but not noticeable on wrist and quite comfortable.
