Rolex Datejust ref. 1601 Root Beer circa 1970
The Datejust is quintessential Rolex. Not only are the 1960-1970’s variations of this model with pie-pan depth and open midcentury font in the datewheel exceptionally unique, but the dials often don refined colors and patina. Here we offer a two-toned 1601 variant framed in an 18k yellow gold fluted bezel and stainless steel case.
This particular dial has patina’d and now not only has a ghost dial with font that disappears in certain light paired with a smoke hue dial but also has a similar color way to the “Clint Eastwood” Root Beer GMT reference 16753. While service history is unknown, the automatic non-quickset movement keeps time on the wrist. The case has light wear and looks relatively polished.

The 1600 variation points to a smooth bezel. The 1601 is a gold fluted one and 1603 sports an engine turned steel bezel.
