Rolex Datejust ref. 1601 Sigma Dial circa 1974 Serial 383####
The Datejust is quintessential Rolex. Not only are the 1960-1970’s variations of this model with pie-pan depth and open midcentury font in the datewheel exceptionally unique, but the dials often don refined colors and patina. This particular dial is both a brushed finish as well as a sigma dial as noted by the text at 6and it looks like: “-o Swiss o-”
This notes a small batch production in the early to mid 1970s made with gold markers and hands; and it matters as the dial has that “it factor” or special global to it; objectively it is different. Here we offer a two-toned variant framed in an 18k yellow gold fluted bezel and stainless steel case.
Datejust notes:
The 1600 variation points to a smooth bezel. The 1601 is a gold fluted one and 1603 sports an engine turned steel bezel.
While service history is unknown, the automatic non-quickset movement ishealthy data. The case has light wear and looks relatively polished —notable stronger lume on hands and possibly service hands but from a long time ago if they are as the color and patina match the rest of the watch.
