Rolex Day Date Solid White Gold ref. 18039 circa 1979 with Service Papers and RSC Card
The Day Date is quintessential Rolex. It is not only what captures the imagination of a luxury solid 18k gold Swiss watch and a sign that, “mama we made it”, but also the type of watch best for mobile currency: can get the owner out of a tough place.
Reference 18039 is a solid 18k white gold variant that is not as common as the yellow gold version as indicated by the final digit "9" in Rolex reference coding system. The model was produced between approximately 1977 and 1988 and was a transitional model that evolved to a more practical offering with sapphire crystal and single quickset date complication for those whom seek a vintage watch that can be thrown in a regular rotation.
Here, we have an applied Roman numeral dial which we assume is a service dial based on “Swiss Made” at 6 instead of period correct T-swiss tritium marks. Overall, this once is in very good condition and current timegrapher is healthy pointing to a healthy watch. No damage but a few condition marks: flea bite on crystal at 12 and dings on caseback. There are light signs of polish but it maintains a thick case
