Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Mosaic Dial Reference 1501 circa 1973
The 70s produced some of the most exotic dials—some stock and some have patina’ed. In this unique case, we have an exclusive Asian Rolex market “shantung” aka “mosiac” dials with unique horizontal flow. This is a blessed silver heather variant: others include grey, blue and maybe brown. We know they also come in Datejust, Oyster Perpetual Date, and Oyster Perpetual no-date forms. Today, the modern iteration is called the Motif but it doesn’t have soul like this.
Reference 1501 distinctly sports engine-turned stainless steel with matching steel case. Between the dial and bezel, there is a huge presence on the wrist especially as the texture plays its the light giving it a white to silver to grey look pending environment.
While no service history, this one is healthy on wrist and timegrapher—your experience may slightly vary. Overall, honest wear—notable marks on top left lug be we kept it unpolished. Hands also appear to be replacements.
