Rolex Oysterdate Precision 6494 Tropical Swiss Only Gilt dial with Roulette date circa 1957
The Oysterdate Precision is a highly collectible reference produced from approximately 1954-1959.
This specific Oysterdate sports a tropical once black now almost espresso or brown ochre like an oxidized cast iron with original fading gilt alpha hands and 3-6-9 applied markers; however, the real treat is the datewheel that reveals not only “open” 6 font but also a “Roulette” style where even numbers are red and odd are black and framed in a gold window. This one has all the details and charm. Lastly, the oyster case sports drilled lugs which enable easy strap changes for a strap monster of a watch—comes on period correct Rolex folded rivet oyster bracelet
Overall, the watch is excellent for its age, minimal signs of polish and no serve damage. While no service history the manual wind movement is keeping time and winding smoothly—perfect on time grapher and wrist. It is extremely tough to tell if the lume is original as it only charges up for a bit and dies—it looks like it has maybe sealed
