Rolex Submariner ref 168000 "Triple Zero" circa 1987 (serial 963#…)
The Rolex Submariner ref. 168000 bridges the gap between the 16800 and 168000 models. It was only produced for a brief 7-9 month window around 1986-1987, making it a highly collectible "transitional" piece and also the epitome of neo-vintage Rolex: sapphire crystal and modern movement paired with a tritium dial/hand set and a vintage font Datewheel
Not only does a “Triple Zero” rarely pop up, but this one also delivers with patina in a thicc, sharp case. This era mark when Rolex ended serials starting with numbers and started with letters. Perks of such an era? Vintage elements such as “open” font in the datewheel but updated crown system as well as the very first Submariner to introduce 904L grade stainless steel for its middle case. Note during this era, tritium hands and markers did not always perfectly match or age consistently in terms of color. This one comes with 2 Rolex oem inserts (the dark black one is the original mate to the watch.
Overall, very good condition with no damage or significant notes. Does have signs of light but proper polish that keep intact thickness and proper lines and finish. While not service history, this one is healthy on wrist and timegrapher (your experience may slightly vary). Tritium lume is dead like it should be.
