Rolex Explorer II ref. 16570 W-Serial 1995 Tritium Dial with 3185 movement

The Rolex Explorer is a rugged tool watch originally designed for cave spelunkers and mountain explorers who need to distinguish day from night in environments with no sunligh hence the fixed 24-hour graduated bezel and a prominent arrow-shaped 24-hour hand.

The 1655 was the first variant born circa 1971 also known as the original "Freccione" in 39mm. In 1985 the 16550 was a transitional period that first installed a sapphire crystal and collectible paint patina evolutions. The 16570 hit in 1989 and had an impressive run until 2011 when it was replaced by the larger 42mm reference 216570.

The 16570 is Solid daily which proved to be the longest production modal—yet often overlooked— contender for a one watch collection here. With tapered steel bezel, black dial, and a pop of red on GMT hand, this is a strong daily option with cohesive design. This variation dons super tritium markers, hands and a steel holes case paired with hollow endlink bracelet so it has a utility vibe and comfortable feel. Lastly, the Explorer II is  a strap beast as it plays nicely with leather or textile straps.

While no service history, the automatic movement is smoothly running with very healthy timegrapher numbers and huge amplitude. Tritium lume is dead like it should be.
