Seiko 62MAS 6217-8000 Small Crown 1965
Legendary tier Seiko as this is historically celebrated as Seiko's first professional-grade dive watch. Launched in 1965, its nickname "62MAS" stems from a combination of the movement caliber prefix (62) and a condensed acronym for "seikoMAtic Selfdater". There isn’t much cooler that a first generation 62mas
The specific 6217-8000 reference shown here is famously known among collectors as the "Small Crown" version. This iteration is highly coveted because it was exclusively manufactured for only a brief two-month window—April and May of 1965—before it was replaced by the 6217-8001 "Big Crown" variant due to the original crown being difficult for divers to manipulate. Today, we are collectors and desk divers.
This particular one is in amazing condition from the dial, lume and pip to the thick, sharp case. The movement has has undergone a recent private service and it is looking healthy on timegrapher.
